Why is grace amazing? Well let’s see what the dictionary say. Grace: mercy, clemency; pardon. In the natural the world uses the term pardon or clemency which are temporal. Meaning it is good only if you are still alive. Pardons or clemency are not given to everyone, in most cases you have to know someone with connections.
The grace the Lord gives is for eternity, unmerited favor and love of God. Amazing isn’t it?
Theology define grace: the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this not not your own doing; it is a free gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
Grace is available for all to have for eternity. Believe through faith in Jesus, grace is poured out for you to enjoy here on earth and in heaven. There is nothing you can do to earn or buy it.
There were two criminals led to be executed with Jesus, a place called The Shull. They nailed him to the cross and the criminals were also crucified, one on his right and one on his left.
Jesus said, ” Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doling.” Luke 23: 32-34
The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. ” He saved others,” they said, ” let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” vs 35
The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine. They called out to him, ” if you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!” vs 36
One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, ” So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself and us, too, while you’re at it!” vs39
But the other criminal protested, ” Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, ” Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” vs40
And Jesus replied, ” I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” vs 43
This one criminal who is about to die a slow and painful death, believed Jesus was the Messiah and he confessed his belief openly for all could hear. At that very moment, grace was poured out on him. He believed and received the free gift of God ( grace ). Amazingly all of his sins were white as snow.
